Melbourne-based singer-songwriter and producer, Kevin Silvester continues to build towards the release of his debut EP, dropping the third single, 'Orbit', tomorrow.
After picking up triple j play for previous EP singles 'Delulu' and 'Stranger', 'Orbit' finds Kevin traversing the frustration of dating someone who's yet to announce their queerness.With slick, polished electro-pop production layered over punchy drums and guitars that growl with a rock menace, 'Orbit' harkens back to glory days of '80s-'90s pop-rock, the FM radio nostalgia dripping from Kevin's vocals.
Sticking to the three-minute, radio-song formula, 'Orbit' weaves in and out of climbing emotion and drawn-out passion before exploding with pure pop-rock adrenaline, Kevin singing: "'Cause I'm just a casualty / In the battle of your reality / Yeah, you want me / So you kiss girls, pretending it's us."
The vocal breakdown near the end ("Right there when you need me / 'Til dawn 'cause you're lonely,") adds to the emotional weight of the track, the bruised, broken feels oozing out of Kevin's voice before the song climaxes with a cathartic sing-along.

"'Orbit' is definitely one of my favourites from the EP. The lyrics are so specific, I almost feel bad for the boy I wrote this about. . . almost," Kevin declares, who draws inspiration from icons like Avril Lavigne and The Veronicas.
"I'd come into the studio really upset, venting to my producers, Ace and Brodie, about a frustrating experience with a boy. Wanting to process it on my own, I went home and wrote this song.
"When I brought it back to the studio a couple days later, it became a special, communal experience as we worked on it together."
Kevin will perform a headline show at Melbourne's Stay Gold on 24 April, joined by Terra Rouge and GETJAXXED.
