Queensland singer-songwriter Karrie Hayward is set to release her new single, 'Centrepiece', on Friday (20 July) from her upcoming EP titled 'Ephemeral'.
"'Centrepiece' is quite a personal song to me because it was the first, real romantic song I had ever really written," Karrie says.
"Drawing from real experiences at that time, the lyrics talk about the balances and unbalances of being in a relationship - 'somedays we fight, we scream and I tell you to go f… yourself' - it's all very real."
Karrie has shared a stream of 'Centrepiece' for scenestr to premiere today. Winning.
Growing up in the tropical environment of the Whitsunday's, Karrie has settled in Brisbane to focus on her 'pop-infused, indie-edge, kaleidoscope of melodic colours'.
Karrie headed to Blind Boy Studios (Gold Coast) to record some tracks with producer, engineer and session musician, Brad Hosking.
Creating an array of progressive stories stems, 'Centrepiece' is a sweet love story expressing the ups and downs in a relationship. "'Centrepiece' is a song that I wrote with a good friend of mine, Caitlyn Shadbolt," Karrie says.
"We sat down not expecting to write anything, but after a short time we had fused this song that aligned with both of our relationships at the time."
