Sunshine Coast's indie artist KARLOU follows up her earlier 2022 single 'Bitter' (55k Spotify streams) with new track '7 Years' that's bursting with angsty rock-pop feels.
Opening with a gentle, strumming guitar and KARLOU's emotionally-drained vocals, the track picks up speed with a central driving bassline powering energetic guitars and fervent drumming with stylised production touches providing a sonic flair to the finished product.Lyrically, '7 Years' drills down into the notion of Sunday night hang-xiety and the all-consuming brain activity of overthinking current dramas while foreshadowing the potential for worst-case scenarios that 'may' lay ahead.
"I have experienced a fair share of bad luck, but I think most of it is due to just overall clumsiness," shares KARLOU.
"This song came out after a clumsy accident of breaking a mirror and now I am superstitious about the bad luck.
"I accidentally broke a mirror at work and my client said to me, 'well I hope it's you who has the seven years of bad luck, not me'. . . Now I'm just waiting for the penny to drop."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (14 October), scenestr is stoked to premiere '7 Years' today. Enjoy.
Produced by IVEY band member Matt McGuffie at 4000 Studios in Brisbane, KARLOU penned the song with co-collaborator Jeffrey Liu.
"It's annoying how much of a perfectionist I am sometimes. I wrote this song three different times before I actually felt happy with it and took it to the studio."
With her resume featuring support slots for The Rubens, Sycco and Hope D as well as playing Caloundra Music Festival (in 2021), KARLOU is working on tour plans for 2023 alongside further festival appearances.
