After scoring a number of #1 songs on triple j's Unearthed charts (as well as a few spins on triple j itself), Jess Spahr's newest release, 'Solid Ground', seems destined to expand the young artist's reach.
An epic opening of strings-enhanced indie rock-pop evolves into a striking pop odyssey anthem, Jess' ethereal and calming vocals (that have strong hints of Delta and Tina Arena) not to mention the repetitive 'whaha-haa' in the chorus create a wall of sound rich in emotion with fierce lyrics that empower. The multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, who resides in Sydney's southern suburbs, is currently working on her debut album that she plans to release early next yet, with 'Solid Ground' to be one of the featured songs.
"This single has always been a favourite of mine!" beams Jess. "I wrote it last year at the end of lockdown, when a lot of negativity was filling my life.
"I was absorbing so many opinions of others about my life choices that I forgot why I had made these choices for myself and the positivity they bring.
"Your choices are your own and no one can make you feel guilty for them."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (1 October), scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Solid Ground' today. Enjoy.
Produced by her "good friend" Luke Carra from Caravana Sun and recorded by the "awesome" Ian Pritchett (Beautiful Girls), Jess hopes anyone listening who's currently struggling with all the associated COVID dramas can find a slither of hope with 'Solid Ground'.
"With lockdown again upon us, I know people are feeling the negativity. Just remember there is solid ground at the end of it all."
