Gold Coast artist Jamie Lamont's sophomore single 'Typa Lady' highlights an emerging talent.
Inspired by retro '70s sound incorporating R&B, soul and bluesy rock produced through a modern lens, Jamie is a vocalist-songwriter intent on connecting listeners with authentic, genuine, emotional music.A follow-up to Lamont's bluesy-burner debut single 'Born Again' in late 2024, Jamie's newest single is titled 'Typa Lady', a song written from a personal space but directed outwardly to empower others.
A chilled, hazy trip-hop flavoured beat – reminiscent of '90s legends Lamb and Portishead – intros the song, Jamie's alluring, husky vocals intwining with the R&B rhythm, a velvety layer of funk lacing the track, the organ-piano bringing all the sassy feels.
The song then soars to life, the infectious soul tones flowing freely as the rhythm section slithers and slides, the guitar twinkling like a stylish fox, Jamie's voice piercing the armour of self-doubt with a confidence that oozes in front of the sublime instrumentation.
Add some sexy woo-aaahs and oooohhh-aahs towards the end and 'Typa Lady' is an anthem brimming with confidence. "I want people to feel seen, valued, and empowered to be unapologetically themselves," she says.
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (27 February), today scenestr is delighted to premiere 'Typa Lady'. Enjoy.
"Creative inspiration for this song came from artists like Sade, Jacob Collier, and Beyonce. I really leaned into my R&B roots with this song," declares Jamie.
"I wrote it as a message to myself in a time when I needed reminding that I am worthy of love, and that I should be confident in my true, authentic self. I hope this song helps listeners to feel empowered and to feel confident in exactly who they are, and know that they are deserving of love and respect."
'Typa Lady', which was recorded at the Queensland Conservatorium, showcases Jamie's commitment to authenticity. "I pour my heart and soul into my music, making sure every element – from the backing vocals to the guitar solos – reflects the power of the story being told."
With plans to release a mini album in 2025, Jamie has a couple of upcoming festival appearances in her calendar. "I am performing at Gold Coast's first Wizfest (21 March) located at Mo's Desert Clubhouse. I will be opening for Cosmic Vice and Pool House. This event is put on by Wizard Water Agency.
"I have also been accepted to perform at Blues On Broadbeach Festival (15-18 May, 2025). If you're on the Gold Coast be sure to come on down to Broadbeach and check out my music!"
