After a 2018 that saw him release his first 3 singles, 19-year-old Brisbane indie singer-songwriter Jack Shannon is back with a fresh sampling of his folk-rock arrangements in the form of three-minute belter 'Liquor Blues'.
It's a sparkly sunbeam of indie rock with a lively, folky ballad structure that's awash with emotive lyrics about "a girl who’d go out every weekend, ending up in tears to then blame it on everyone else".
Aside from the drum tracks, Jack performs all the instrumentation on 'Liquor Blues'.
"'Liquor Blues' to me is about an old friend who’d always just have a bit too much to drink and get emotional blaming everyone else on having a bad time," Jack says.
"It’d be the same story over and over, and yet all she’d want to do is get drunk every weekend with her 'fake friends' and I’d always get wrapped into whatever was going on."
Ahead of the commercial release of 'Liquor Blues' tomorrow (28 March), scenestr is ecstatic to premiere a stream of the song for your ears today. Enjoy.
Jack Shannon will launch his brand-new track with his band across two shows, first at Brisbane’s Netherworld on 12 April alongside The Fools.
He then is hosting and performing at his very own mini-festival, ‘Everything Is Blue Again’, at the Gold Coast’s Mo's Desert Clubhouse on May 10 with support from Catchpole and more special guests.
