Brisbane five-piece, Kiwi-infused reggae act ITES' new single, 'Look At The Sky', is one of hope and defiance against those that subjugate us to their ways.
Through difficult times, people look to the sky in reference to prayer, to hope, to light and tranquillity. 'Look At The Sky' is a gentle reminder that there is always hope for a better day.
"My musical journey started with my cousin, Thomas Te Taite, in our bedroom with a four-track recorder, back in the early '90s when we were in our teens," frontman and guitarist Eugene Ellison says.
"And after a 20-year hiatus and a surgery that left me feeling hopeless in recovery, music, lyrics and reason started spilling from me. I wanted my songs recorded and I could only have done it with Thomas. I wanted to share this with him. So I went back to Wellington, NZ where Thomas is a great NZ music producer in his own right, with a one-week schedule to record a ten-song album.
"'Look At The Sky' was a one take, off the cuff song. I wrote it in five minutes and went straight in and recorded. 'Look At The Sky' ended up being the most personal and spiritual of any song I have written. It's always going to mean cleansing and renewal. It is a message that I know someone's watching over me and I only need to look up to be reminded."
ITES will also host a live-stream event Under The Tree 17 June where they will be doing live performances and interviews with band members, creating a wonderful insight into who they are, what they want to achieve and what exciting things they've got coming up.
