Self-described as 'trop-pop', Sydney trio Imperials are about to release their debut single 'Carolina'.
The group came together when Ingrid met Josh through mutual songwriting projects. Writing for others, they soon had a collection of songs when the vision for Imperials came to them.
The band could not be completed without a drummer. After studying abroad at the Drummers Collective school in NYC, Joey met Josh at Arthur St studio. Joey was later introduced to Ingrid to complete the trio.
Sugary pop with a carefree attitude, 'Carolina' (mixed by Birds Of Tokyo's Ian Berney) was written about a real person as co-lead singer Ingrid explains. "'Carolina' is a bittersweet moment where you think you have it all until you snap out of it.
"You do absolutely everything you can to make this person happy but realise you aren’t getting anything in return. The more you try, the more you love, the more distant and indecisive that person grows.
"You fall into a trap and live a surreal experience for just that moment. It was too good to be real, so you convince yourself you were only there for lust, but knowing damn well it was something more.
"'Carolina' (with Josh as lead singer for this track) is based on a real person; we wouldn't have written this song if it weren't for them."
Ahead of the song's commercial release tomorrow (15 November), scenestr is stoked to premiere 'Carolina' today. Enjoy.
