Sydney alt-rockers HURST have been 'sweating on stages and rolling out infectious tracks whiles breaking hearts' since 2014.
With supports for the likes of Kingswood and The Love Junkies, the four-piece band will release their newest track 'All My Friends (Are Liars)' - the first song HURST has written, recorded and produced independently - this Friday (25 August).
But the guys couldn't wait that long, giving scenestr the thumbs up to premiere the song today (upside-down crab hands people!). "'All My Friends (Are Liars)' is about the toxicity of social media," reveals singer-guitarist Ana Veira.
"It hit me one night I was out in the city. I went into a club to see a band and hang out, and all I noticed were disengaged people. They were just out taking photos, telling their newsfeeds 'we were here!', without actually experiencing or connecting with one another or what’s around them.
"We feel more disappointed about ourselves when we lose the opportunity to talk or share where we are or what we’re 'doing', rather than actually doing anything."
The band took a DIY-approach to recording the song; from tracking drums in a 1,000+ seater church on the Central Coast of NSW and everything else in and out of the bedrooms of their drummer’s house (Nick Zammit). "With this new song, we decided to put ourselves out of our comfort zone," Nick says.
"It was the first time I personally had put myself in a position where I was responsible for not only the recording, but also the whole mixing process. It was difficult, but rewarding in the end."
