Premiere: Stream Honey Hayze's New Single 'Zombie'

Sydney band Honey Hayze return with new single 'Zombie'.
National Music Editor, based in Brisbane, Australia.
'Passionate about true crime docos, the Swannies, golf and sleep, I’ve been writing about music for 20-plus years. What I’ve learnt? There’s two types of music – good and bad.’

Straight outta Bondi are the swaggering tones of Honey Hayze, a five-piece crew who create a sweet and sticky mix of funk, rock and blues.

Only together for two years, the band of brothers that is Earl Weir (lead vox), Rory Wheatley (lead guitar), Angus Hart (drums), Luke Martin (bass) and Lachlan Pearse (sax) already have two headline east-coast tours to their name as well as an European adventure.

Off the back of previous single 'Afternoon', Honey Hayze are right back at it with new single 'Zombie'.

Like INXS took a shot of The Birthday Party and had a chaser of The Living End, 'Zombie' comes galloping at you like a Fisherman's Friend wallop to the chops, with a just as refreshing after-taste.

"While the song is mostly about a lost love, it also taps into a disconnection in relationships and how easy it is to slide into an isolated hole," lead vocalist Earl Weir says.

"Something we see with people more and more being on their phones and generally acting like zombies at times. Get out there, meet people have fun, f... Insta."

Ahead of 'Zombie''s release on Friday (6 March), scenestr is tickled pink to offer you an exclusive stream of the single today. Enjoy.

Having also gigged with the likes of Art vs Science, Skegss and Bec Sandridge, Honey Hayze's live show is something to behold, particularly given the rumours swirling about after their recent second birthday house party.

"As anyone who's seen our live shows could also relay, we love big sounds and big energy. This track definitely captures that and goes off live," Earl adds.

"It's slowed down a bit in this recording. You'll have to come check it out for the big energy and the great, long solo that generally sees me crowd surfing somewhere. I recently fractured my ankle doing just this at our second birthday house party."

Stay tuned for the debut EP from Honey Hayze, which will be dropping later in 2020.
