An emerging indie-punk outfit from Sydney, Great Job! are building momentum having supported the likes of The Hard Aches and Raised As Wolves.
A band who enjoy playing live as much as possible, Great Job! are ready to take the covers off their newest EP, 'Up, Down, All Around'.Across six tracks, Great Job! produce feel-good jangly power punk-rock that flirts with new wave-, post punk-flavoured indie rock with nasally Ocker accents and lyrics that mirror everyday life through an Australiana lens.
The band's vibes and tones are similar to The Smith Street Band, Dear Seattle, Alex Lahey and Camp Cope.
"The EP is about perspective. It's about how I view myself, my friends, my relationships, and strangers," Great Job! frontman Charlie Hollands says.
"Some of these songs were written five years ago, some were written a week before we recorded, so there's a myriad of different feelings and stories.
"Despite the variety it all boils down to a single viewpoint. Things can seem wonderful, things can seem harrowing. It's all up, down, or all around."
Ahead of the EP's release tomorrow, scenestr is amped to premiere the 'Up, Down, All Around' EP today. Enjoy.
Here, Charlie talks us through each track.
I Just Wanna Be Friends With Everyone
This song is about going to shows alone (specifically at Blackwire Records RIP) and wanting to make friends, make music, and make the most of what I have around me.Wasting My 20s
The saddest and heaviest song we've ever written. It's about being afraid of being in love, not the person but rather the concept and fearing the long life ahead of me.The Way My Baby Likes It
It's a love song. It's named after a Front Bottoms lyric that my partner and I would scream in the car as we constantly drove back and forth to each other's houses during lockdown.Unlikeable
This song is about being at your grossest and grottiest, but still someone liking you. The idea of how you perceive yourself against how others perceive you.Break Up With Your Boyfriend
This is the most fun song to play live, the song is really literal. I was at a party and the whole night evolved into everyone yelling at a friend of ours, telling her that her boyfriend sucked. It's true, he's a cop now.Coda
James made this for fun but it's so pretty it went on the EP. If you listen closely it's got melodic and rhythmic ideas from all of the tracks. James was also teaching himself violin and that features here.Great Job! 2022 Tour Dates
