Underground indie lords Galleri's newest single, 'Head In The Mire', is a delightful ride through nostalgic new wave melodies, the indie rock feels washing over you like a refreshing breeze.
The Mid North Coast band, who began life in the late 2000s as the house band at Central Coast venue The Gallery (now defunct), create music across a broad range of genres, their songs expressing loud and quiet, light and dark, and everything in between. With a sound reminiscent of early naughties Aussie indie bands like 78 Saab, Purplene, Art Of Fighting and Big Heavy Stuff (seriously, Google them if you haven't heard any of them), 'Head In The Mire' finds Galleri contemplating life's major dramas.
"'Head In The Mire' questions our human conscience," frontman John Moore says. "There is underlying anxiety and uncertainty in the times we're living in.
"We know what is inherently right or wrong in our bones, but it's hard to pinpoint exactly what that is with the media and control mechanisms in place.
"There is confusion on what we believe and what we are told to believe in. Sometimes it's easier to live in our own, small world paradise than to acknowledge the bigger picture and confront reality.
"Does it make us liars if we know what is right, but go against ourselves to do what the higher powers tell us?"
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow, scenestr is amped to premiere 'Head In The Mire' today. Enjoy.
Zach Miller, from Target Hearts Studio, travelled down and set up studio in Normie's house at Green Point, near Pacific Palms, to record the track.
"Essentially Zach acted as another member of the band through the process," John says.
"We really wanted to the production to be rawer and true to the live sound without huge shiny production."
