Dylan Pinkerton is a pop artist based in Melbourne.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A Melbourne-based artist and songwriter, who has played in various outfits since 2012 (touring the US and Australia), Dylan Pinkerton's newest solo release is 'One That You Love'.

An electro-pop song overflowing with optimistic, buoyant vibes and Dylan's powerful, confident vocals that channel his inner Cupid 'One That You Love' will appeal to romantics and those newly in love.

Then there's the chorus that demands an intense sing-along: 'The skin that you wear / It doesn't compare to the love that we share / Bodies that are made of flesh and blood, there's got to be more than the soul I adore.'

"'One That You Love' is about seeing through someone and realising they are more than flesh and blood, that they have a beauty that extends beyond our physical world," Dylan says.

"It's the existential question of, are we more than these bodies, and are our souls intertwined into something so divine that even the gods would sing songs of our love?"

Ahead of the song's release on Friday (4 November), scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'One That You Love' today. Enjoy.

'One That You Love' follows Pinkerton's early 2022 single 'I'm In Love' and 2020 song 'Thrill Of The Fall'; as well as his 2021 collab with Matt Marcii 'Ready Or Not'.

The winner of the Alex Legg Memorial Foundation Scholarship in 2020 and the Moorambilla Voices Remix Competition, the writing of 'One That You Love' was one of those 'catching lightning in a bottle' moments for Pinkerton.

"Sometimes a song comes in a flash and this was one of them," he says. "I remember this thought that kept going around my mind, 'I could be more than the one that you', and no matter how hard I tried to push it from my mind to focus on the task at hand it came back.

"I took it as a sign to just stop working (for my business, You Music Mentorship) and within an hour I had produced the main elements you hear in the first minute of the song.

"There was little conscious thought at the time, just a pure stream of music that came out like it had been swirling around in my subconscious waiting to be let free."

The recording of the song's chorus was another moment when the creativity struck at an inopportune time. "Well, I was actually late for a meeting because I lost track of time.

"I was practically running out the door, but stopped myself to record the line: 'The skin that you wear / It doesn't compare to the love that we share / Bodies that are made of flesh and blood, there's got to be more than the soul I adore.'

"There was something that stopped me in that moment and I knew this song was going to be special."
