Originally from Boorloo and now based in Meanjin, independent musician Delilah Rose's journey has seen her scoop up accolades including Best Group at the WA Country Music Awards, alongside a nomination for Best Country Act at the WAM Awards.
A festival regular, Rose has also shared stages with the likes of Samantha Fish (USA), Nathan Cavaleri, and Troy Cassar-Daley. Delilah's newest release, titled 'Times A Wastin'', is a song about being in the moment with your people.
An Americana, alt. country ballad that enriches with every listen, the Nashville vibes run deep on 'Times A Wastin'', a song akin to a beacon on the coastline, flickering with life, drawing you closer.
Joyous harmonies, shimmery, nostalgia-filled dusty drums, guitars that jangle in all the right parts, and a bassline humming like an angel, Delilah's warm, luscious, earthy vocals are drizzled over the melody.
It's heartfelt, earnest, wholesome, a meandering country-rock waltz that will fill your cup to brimming, love overflowing as your embrace life's joys as well as the inevitable suffering in equal parts, the moment lingering like a hearty embrace from your people, the folks who absorb you into their lives and vice versa.
Then there's that gorgeous guitar solo that soars like an eagle, sharp tones inflected with heart it'll touch your soul and leave goosebumps on your arms – if it doesn't, call a doctor.
By song's end, you'll have misty eyes but it could also be from the sloshing beer as your dance circle erupts in passion. "It's about being present, right here, right now, with your people," Delilah shares.
"We all move through highs and lows. No one gets to skip the dark or the dawn. Everything can change in an instant, so don't wait. Hold close, laugh hard, eat the cake and wear the dress."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (28 November), today scenestr is delighted to premiere 'Times A Wastin''. Enjoy.
Co-written with Grammy Award winner Melody Walker (Nashville), 'Times A Wastin'' was engineered by Tristan Bird (Brisbane) and mastered by Pete Lyman (Nashville), best known for Brandi Carlile's 'The Joke'.
"The song was co-written with Melody over Instagram FaceTime. I reached out to Melody after I had discovered that she had co-written 'American Dreaming' with Sierra Ferrell; and I ADORE Sierra," declares Delilah.
"So I messaged Melody and she said yes! You don't ask, you don't get! We went through some ideas and I was after a song that was full of hope and that I could see everyone arm in arm singing at the end of a show. We spent about an hour and it all flowed out! Melody was a dream to work with. Boom!"
Alongside her own musical endeavours, Delilah also runs The Song Café (Brisbane), a monthly event showcasing women, First Nations and non-binary songwriters as well as an online club called the Crap Song Club (for serial procrastinators and recovering perfectionists).
She also runs songwriting retreats under the Australian Songwriting Retreats banner. Being so engrained in the local scene is a big part of why her friends decided to surprise Delilah during the recording of 'Times A Wastin''.
"The recording process is a great story. So I was at the creek with a friend and she said we should go drop into the studio to see Tristan (producer on the track and forthcoming album) and I walked in and the whole band was there and they'd recorded the song AND paid for it.
"Not only that, but Tristan had contacted Melody and had her go to his pal's studio in Nashville and record BVs! So I added my guitar and vox and it was done. It was such a wonderful present to be given by those seven people.
"I'd been through two heart procedures and I felt so held and loved. The fact that they believed in me AND the song so much to come together and do that. It took my breath away."
