For her newest song 'Sweet Summer Nights', Gold Coast-based First Nations acoustic-pop artist Dani Teveluwe (pronounced 'tee-va-loo') rediscovered her love of Lana Del Rey's 'Summertime Sadness'.
Upbeat, folky country-pop vibes that dazzle with a shimmery acoustic pop rhythm, the song begins with a fragile yet beautiful acoustic guitar riff and Dani's mesmerising vocals that enchant with their charming, alluring tones.A gorgeous, heartwarming electronic beat is then intertwined over the arrangement producing a lively collision of sounds that demand shuffling shoulders penguin-dance style!
Add the sah u – a coconut Thai violin (played by Peranya Visitchantaragoon) – that gives a country waltz feel and Dani has created a track that bounces from youthful enthusiasm to blissful merriment that will lift your spirits.
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (5 August), scenestr is stoked to premiere 'Sweet Summer Nights' today. Enjoy.
A sweetly soulful tale of a summer romance, 'Sweet Summer Nights' follows Dani's previous release 'Waiting Wasting Time' that saw her tour with Death By Denim and Old Mervs.
"'Sweet Summer Nights' is my love letter to Lana Del Rey's 'Summertime Sadness'," begins Teveluwe. "At the time of writing it I had been playing 'Summertime Sadness' a whole heap and I fell in love with the song all over again.
"Sitting on me bedroom floor I wrote 'Sweet Summer Nights' in ten minutes. I envisage these wildly fun and free nights whenever I'm playing it. Like you're living in pure flow."
'Sweet Summer Nights' is the first release from Dani's debut EP 'Into The Deep' (that's due 2 September).
Dani Teveluwe plays Burleigh Bazaar (Gold Coast) 20 August and Bearded Dragon (Gold Coast) 21 August.
