Premiere: Stream Chloe Kay And The Crusade's New Single 'Lies'

Chloe Kay And The Crusade are a soul-blues-rock band from Sydney.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Sydney-based blues, soul, rock band Chloe Kay And The Crusade continue to create ripples locally with a sound that resonates long after the final note has been played.

Winners of 2023 Sydney Blues Society's Favourite Emerging Act award, after being finalists in Bluesfest's 2022 busking competition, comparisons to Bonnie Raitt and Joss Stone hit the mark.

It's also why acclaimed blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa added the group's 2022 single 'Broken Woman' to three of his Spotify playlists.

After a trio of single releases since their 2021 debut, Chloe Kay And The Crusade are now ready to showcase their newest song, 'Lies'.

Funky, blues-laced soul and rollicking rock & roll, 'Lies' is brimming with a fiery passion that's fed by Chloe's earthy, potent vocals that transport you to a landscape of '70s motifs.

The organ drives the melody with a cruisey yet bristling beat that flourishes with a tight rhythm section that keeps the sonic flow crisp yet loose.

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (18 August), scenestr is stoked to premiere 'Lies' today. Enjoy.

"'Lies' is a funky blues anthem for anyone who's been lied to, realised their worth and decided not to stand for it anymore," shares the band.

"The song started with a strong, groovy guitar riff and the lyrics were written to complement. It's about the mind games an untruthful person puts you through and letting them know you're too good to play their game anymore.

"It's all about empowerment and essentially saying yes to yourself rather than an insincere relationship or friendship with someone."

Recorded, mixed and mastered by Ben from Everland Studios in Sydney, Chloe Kay And The Crusade feature Chloe Kay Richardson (vocals) alongside Adam James (guitar), James Arthur (bass), Juan Baratto (drums), and Patrick Harrison (keys).

"Our goal was to capture a tight, energetic, soulful sound without too many frills, and we feel we've done that well! Definitely a song to belt out and dance along to," adds the band.

The band will celebrate the new single with a show at Bucketty's Brewery (Sydney) 19 August followed by Blues & Roots Revival (Central Coast) on 9 September.
