Despite his relative youth, Charlie Wilde's music bursts to life with a cinematic feel that will leave you entranced, the raw beauty of his compositions similar to '90s indie heroes Mercury Rev and Ken Stringfellow – Bon Iver for younger readers.
Charlie's debut EP 'Allihies' is a ride through dream pop that meets stark indie folk with a side of shoe-gaze twee pop."'Allihies' was recorded in a really beautiful space in Fremantle called Tunafish," begins Charlie. "It was chosen for its living room aesthetic, which helped to temper my anxiety in a professional setting.
"I worked with WAMAward-winning producer Broderick Madden-Scott in a dual role of engineer/ producer, who really helped bring the full scope of the project together.
"I also brought on local artists Lucas Jones of These Winter Nights and Pavan Kumar Hari for a collaborative effort in soundscaping and arrangements."
Ahead of its release on Friday (10 September), scenestr is pumped to premiere the 'Allihies' EP today. Enjoy.
Here, Charlie walks us through some of the songs that feature on the 'Allihies' EP.
"'Allihies' – I wanted a really big, cinematic feel for this piece to operate as a facade for the real song hidden underneath; it's my hope that it captures the mask that many of us wear.
"'For You #1' – for a long time this song existed only to calm me down during particularly tough sets, I now play it with full band backing and it's become a huge source of strength for me.
"'Cacophony' – I wanted to capture the feeling of those erratic thoughts we all have when going through a crisis, each instrument represents a different tangent of thought constantly pulling focus.
"'Buckley's Rd'– this piece is goodbye for me, the western scene was particularly enthralling to create. The old cowboy farewells a weeping widow and faces his demise head on."
