Quickly making a name for herself on the local scene (winning the Best Youth Act at the recent WAM Awards), Perth singer-songwriter Castle Hughes' latest track is an anthem for anyone dealing with a messy break-up.
'Warning' isn't shy in letting you know exactly how Castle feels about her ex.Dark cabaret pop with lashes of psych-rock 'Warning' ricochets across the sound waves, its fierce energy building an exuberant enthusiasm as Castle sings about the fall-out from a break-up with a narcissistic, ego-driven person.
Sonically, the track sits somewhere between Amanda Palmer and Regina Spektor crossed with Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Anna Calvi.
Castle describes 'Warning' as a "rage filled, scream your lungs out, car shaking" single.
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (18 November), scenestr is stoked to premiere 'Warning' today. Enjoy.
Some of the lyrics she's penned are perfect for that 'rage-filled' car sing-along: 'Say hi to the devil as you slide on down' / 'The list of girls you f... is not a flex' / 'Heaven help the girls that will come next'.
"This is one of those super relatable, typical heartbreak songs that I reckon literally anyone could relate to," Castle says.
"I had to be really careful with the lyrics for this song as originally I let it all out straight after my break-up, screaming as if he was right in my face. . . therapeutic.
"Took a few days and then came back to my words and had to censor myself, turning it into a song. Trying not to trash him. . . too much."
