A veteran musician whose career stretches back to the 1990s, Brett Voss is an independent singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist living in Gold Coast.
Brett was a founding member of Brisbane grunge band Filter who built a solid underground following. When he traversed into his solo endeavours, Brett first went by Starbug before releasing music under his own name in 2010 when he released the 'Falling Forwards' EP.
After a number of years of inactivity, in recent times Brett has released the EPs 'Inside' (2019) and 'The Days Of Being' (2024) as well as an album, 2022's 'All Over Again'.
A musical style incorporating alternative rock with flourishes of '80s glam, underpinned by guitar-driven grit layered in indie sensibilities and introspective lyrics, Voss returns with new single 'Another Way'.
Radio-friendly pop-rock featuring taut yet precise guitar riffs that hum with an intensity fused to textured drumming that fleshes out the melody, the rhythm flows freely.
Voss' vocals remain clear, almost conversational, a hint of weariness shackled to the realisation that remaining steadfast in a deteriorating situation is a fool's errand. Add the atmospheric synths layered in the background and 'Another Way' percolates with a melodic juiciness.
The sonic landscape sees 'Another Way' fall somewhere between Live and The Killers; polished contemporary indie rock that harkens back to the grunge-filled alternative days of the '90s.

"The song is about that moment you realise you have to shift gears," Brett says. "It's about understanding that holding onto a difficult situation isn't always strength – sometimes, true strength is finding the courage to say 'there must be another way', and actually taking that first step.
"'Another Way' is a guitar-driven indie rock track that fuses contemporary grit with nostalgic '80s flair. Joining me on this track is drummer Trevor Gee (The Blackwater Fever and Opus Of A Machine) who stepped in at the last minute to make the session happen, when touring commitments meant that another drummer was unable to complete the session."
