Driving bass, squelchy, bouncy beats paired with fresh-af techy-claps and the infectious, sultry, Valley Girl vocal hook "just like that" (which plays 170-odd times throughout the song), Big Boss' 'Just Like That' is a tech-house banger that is going to heat-up dance floors all winter.
2021 has seen the Melbourne producer-DJ remix Friendless ('Drip'), sign to labels Be Rich Records, Recall Network, and Ay Yo Trip (more to be announced), with a remix EP with Melbourne's electricshady and NAMA scheduled for June."You know that feeling when you're with your mates at a festival, moving from one stage to another and you catch the hook of a song you were all pre-gaming to," explains Big Boss discussing how 'Just Like That' was created, "so you and your friends look at each other, run full blast into the crowd like there's some sort of mad countdown before the track actually kicks in.
"Then when it all happens you get swept up in literally just having as much fun for the next few minutes. That feeling, at Groovin The Moo or wherever you might be is the vibe here.
"Huge inspiration from the Australian house music scene; guys like Stace Cadet, Airwolf and some old-school Dutch blog house from back in the day."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (14 May), scenestr is stoked to premiere 'Just Like That' today. Enjoy.
A track that took over a year to be written and recorded, Big Boss has heard the vocal hook many, many times.
"All of the song was made either in my bedroom, in my studio space or on a dining table at my current housemate's parents' house. Over the year that it was being written it must have looped thousands of times.
"At first my housemate would walk around the house just chirpin' around 'I need something just like that'; after a few weeks I decided to see just how many times the phrase 'just like...' played in the track – 169 times, start to finish.
"Doing the maths – with the whole song being heard maybe twice a day on average for lets say a conservative half a year, we've heard the hook at minimum 61,685 times!"
Big Boss plays Ethereal by Babie Club at Tokyo Hustle Bar (Melbourne) alongside NLV signee Laces and Kenta204 on 22 May.
