Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

With 1.6 million streams on Spotify and another 1.7 million views on YouTube, Perth rising pop star Bailey Perrie is quickly building a massive online following.

That reputation was recently enhanced when Bailey won the International Female Rising Star award at the International Singer Songwriter Association's 2024 awards in America.

Bailey's first new song of 2025 is titled 'No Main Character', which dwells on the feeling of being a background character in one's own life that's equal parts vulnerability and empowerment.

A stirring, fragile piano leads the song, Bailey's softly spoken words serenading herself as she finds the self-confidence to own her space and step into the spotlight.

The song then bursts to life with a '90s flavoured pop-rock beat that bounces with a contagious country-pop energy, Bailey's vocals clear and concise, the song's enthusiasm fizzing and zinging about with a vibrant brightness.

It's a fun, frolicking song beaming with a cheekiness that's hard not to bop along to.

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (7 February), today scenestr is delighted to premiere 'No Main Character'. Enjoy.

"This song is all about stepping out of the background and into the spotlight," shares Bailey. "I wanted to take a fun concept – being a background extra – and turn it into a metaphor for finding your confidence and owning your worth.

"The track itself mirrors that journey, starting off soft and building into something powerful. I actually pulled the lyrics from a personal experience – I was on set as a background extra and caught myself thinking, 'what if I was the lead? That would be kinda fun.' And that idea stuck with me."

Bailey will bring 'No Main Character' to life when she launches the single with a hometown show at Four5Nine Bar on 14 February.

"A fun studio moment: My producer wanted this super high belting harmony, and I was convinced I couldn't do it. But somehow, I pulled it off – and I even have the recording on my phone as proof! Any singers out there will get it – that was my main character moment, realising I had more in me than I thought."
