Lovers of The Dead Weather, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and IDLES step right up, 'cause Arabella and The Heist have landed with an intoxicating concoction of aggressive, smouldering punk rock that sizzles like a doomed pork chop.
Direct from Melbourne's underground scene where they've been flogging sound systems in band rooms since 2021, Arabella and The Heist's newest single is '1769' that was produced by Michael Badger (Amyl and The Sniffers, King Gizz).A menacing, distorted, effect-pedal-drenched riff opens proceedings, quickly escalating into a furious rhythm pounding with a crazed intensity that's married to the snarling, sneering, sultry vocals of Holly Arabella, whose tone empowers a dominatrix-meets-girl-next-door spirit.
Just when you're adjusting your hair for epic flicks, the two-minute track is over as it quickly fades into sludgy feedback, your throbbing heartbeat matched by battered lungs gulping for air. It's a frenzy akin to a shark attack (figuratively of course!).
"We wanted to write a track that felt like a night out in Melbourne, and we wanted to build that energy and tension," shares Holly. "'1769' embodies a feeling of adrenaline, of walking into a dive bar where the music's loud and you're surrounded by chaos."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (8 March), scenestr is thrilled to premiere '1769' today. Enjoy.
"We're inviting you into our 2AM mania," adds Holly, "into a space where the only time that matters to us is the pounding in your chest.
"This track drives you head first into our world, a taster of an album, due on its way by the end of the year."
Since they debuted in 2021, the band have released a number of singles culminating in their debut EP 'The Back Woods' that landed last year.
Locally, they've played Cherryfest and performed sold-out gigs with the likes of Vermantics, Battlesnake, The Ugly Kings and The Valiants. Most recently, they supported German punks S.U.G.A.R and played Mordi Fest with The Vanns, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, Pierce Brothers and more.
Arabella and The Heist play a free show at Duke Of Enmore (Sydney) on 28 March.
