Self-confessed sad-boy songwriter, Sydney's Andrew Lopez is intent on reinvigorating the early 2000s emo pop-punk sounds with a fresh, modern take on the genre.
Andrew was in his early 20s when he needed an outlet to express his emotions. That's when he first turned to writing music. Fast-forward two years and Andrew has practiced his craft, penning hundreds of songs using just his voice and guitar. After making his debut last year, Lopez has released a number of singles that led to his first EP 'These Thoughts Of Mine' that dropped in March. The five-track mini album currently has a combined 50k-plus streams on Spotify.
Andrew's songs range from slow and intimate to punchy and energetic, with a personable thread running through all his originals.
A month after releasing his next single 'Grow Up', Lopez's newest single is titled 'Miss U Around' – a track that hearts the vibes of Kelly Clarkson.
Clean, smooth vocal lines expressing self-anguish are melded to an energetic guitar that strums like a hummingbird, evoking a sense of a palpitating heartbeat as the impending stress of losing a treasured relationship becomes reality.
The song then bursts into a fully-fledged pop-punk sing-along that'll have you reminiscing about 2000s emo vibes.
"Another one! Channeling my inner Kelly Clarkson with this one; can't wait for you to hear it all."
Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (16 June), scenestr is amped to premiere 'Miss U Around' today. Enjoy.
"I didn't realise it as I was writing, but this song is definitely a callback to Kelly Clarkson," adds Andrew. "'Miss U Around' is like Since U Been Gone but angsty. We even went for the same drum sounds.
"I want to tap into great music from the 2000s and make it new again."
