Premiere: Stream Ambulance's Debut Single 'Not That Bad'

AMBULANCE are an alternative rock band from Victoria.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A trio of lads from Dandenong Ranges, AMBULANCE are an alternative rock act entrenched with a punk mindset and intent on creating music that fosters cathartic releases.

The band's story begins back in high school, when Angus (drums) and Jayden (singer) first met and built a friendship around their shared love of music.

After starting another band with some other mates, Angus and Jayden honed their craft the next five years, playing local pubs and festivals.

When Jayden departed to focus on self-producing hip hop and electronic music while Angus went on to front the aforementioned band (while both juggled 9-to-5 jobs), their friendship remained tight.

Despite their musical dreams drifting for a time, their orbit soon came together again with the addition of Jayden's brother Ben on bass guitar, who had spent his teen years jamming in his room favouring Green Day and Blink-182 influences.

It was only natural Jayden asked Angus if he wanted to get back behind the drum kit with him. Angus was keen as mustard and so was Benny; and thus arrived AMBULANCE, who are ready to release their debut single 'Not That Bad'.

Recorded at Sing Sing and LSS Studios with their close mate Tyrone from Zollo Sound last October, 'Not That Bad' features drony, grungy, '90s alt-flavoured rock that bleeds out the speakers.

There's Mudhoney and Smashing Pumpkins influences oozing through as well as moments that hint at the sonic texture of Something For Kate and British India melded to the intensity of Gyroscope.

Ahead of its release tomorrow (3 February) scenestr is thrilled to premiere 'Not That Bad' today. Enjoy.

"'Not That Bad' is mostly about failed relationships and how I've made rash decisions or f...ed people off for little to no reason and reflecting on that," shares Jayden. "Also the drum and bass lines are so sick; Benny and Gus kill on this track."

With the release of their debut EP 'RUSH' in the works, AMBULANCE are ready to showcase their wares to the world. . . and they're bloody excited about that. "It was like f...ing. . . magic," Jayden says, detailing the origins of AMBULANCE.

"I don't know if it felt like that for the other boys, but f... I could not stop smiling. "Benny's disdain for boring, sh.tty basslines keeps a vibrant energy in all songs, as does Angus' raw talent on the skins; I wouldn't feel as confident as I do regarding us as a group if I didn't have these two with me.

"I love pushing the boys and seeing what they come up with, and I really respect their music visions and I hope they feel the same about me."
