'Passionate about true crime docos, the Swannies, golf and sleep, I’ve been writing about music for 20-plus years. What I’ve learnt? There’s two types of music – good and bad.’

Australian singer-songwriter Acoustic Foxx returns after a three-year-plus absence, with a deeply personal and emotional ode to his grandmother.

An artist who has never forced the creative urgency of his songwriting, often allowing large portions of time to pass in-between the work of a crafting a new song (check out our 2022 interview with him discussing his last single release, 'Glimmer'), Acoustic Foxx's newest release was born from a place of sorrow and grief, but buoyed by flood of positive memories looking back at his grandmother's life.

"What I've always loved about music is it lives on beyond the writer and the listener," Acoustic Foxx, the moniker of Craig Williams, says. "A good song last for generations and has different meaning for every listener.

"I felt I had to document this current moment in time, as I was reflecting on all the good times gone by. A grandmother is often such a strong and important relationship in people's lives, mine was no different. They love you like no one else can, and vice versa."

Ahead of the song's release tomorrow (6 August), today scenestr is delighted to premiere 'A Little Time'. Enjoy.

A poignant acoustic indie rock ballad bathed in post-grunge tones, a haunting electrified harmonica adds an emotional weight to Craig's earthy, sombre, rich vocals that beautifully encapsulate the unwavering love we have for our grandparents.

Lyrically, it's equal parts yearning for his beloved grandmother while honouring her memory, his Chris Cornell and Elliott Smith influences clearly evident, yet Craig has created a song many who have recently loss their own loved ones will draw meaning from.

"I hesitated releasing such a personal song, but all songs start from somewhere deep inside. I think my Nan would want me to send it out into the world, so that's what I will do."

Formerly making his mark as a musician in rock bands in his earlier days, Acoustic Foxx has also been slinging his guitar for pop-rock artist Aimee Francis as well as some other creative endeavours.

"The song itself was written quite quickly, but it was a song I found I had to distance myself from quite often while in the process of recording it," adds Craig.

"I'd record parts and just have to put it to the side for months at a time. Maybe because it was such a heavy song, I don't know. I just wanted to get it right and not rush it. I actually didn't know if I wanted to release it at all, but I hoped people may appreciate and relate to the honesty in it."

His love of Elliott Smith as well as The Beatles also played a role in the creation of 'A Little Time'. "Around the time of writing this song, I was going through yet another phase of listening to The Beatles, and also listening to a lot of Elliott Smith.

"So I had in mind that I wanted to write a song with more chord changes than I typically might do, keep the song moving along more."

'A Little Time' was engineered, mixed and mastered by Joshua Whitehead at Crosstown Soundstudio in Preston (Melbourne).
