Melbourne indie band 2RU return with their newest single 'Will Must Die'.
After releasing their debut single 'Cool' in 2020, this year has seen 2RU get busy with four new songs released: 'The Fixer', 'Eleanor', 'Mother Nature Suicide' and 'Something's Happening'.Their latest chapter, 'Will Must Die', features arty new wave, breezy power-pop, and melodic post punk tones condensed into a three-minute bop.
There's also a mid-song instrumentation freakout and a bunch of "oohs oohhhs" throughout that add extra sonic texture that'll have you grooving along.
"Written with a diabolical ex-housemate in mind, 'Will Must Die' is about the conscious effort to jettison someone close that is weighing you down," singer Aidan Maizels says. "Whilst it is angry, it's also introspective and empathetic."
Ahead of the song's release on Friday (11 November), scenestr is amped to premiere 'Will Must Die' today. Enjoy.
"Musically, it channels early Who-style '60s pop, as well as Smashing Pumpkins and Regurgitator-style '90s alt rock," adds Aidan.
"Watch out for Michelle Lam's epic keyboard solo, as well as Pete Stathopoulos' magic voice helping out in the choruses."
The quartet – Aidan (bass/ guitar/ lead vox), Pete (guitar/ bass/ vox), Michelle (keys/ vox) and Ollie Iacono (drums/ percussion) – will launch 'Will Must Die' at Bar 303 (Melbourne) 17 December.
