Newcomers to the Brisbane music scene, Mecha Mecha have burst out of the stable to announce their sophomore EP 'Blink & You'll Miss It' will be released next month (27 July).

To tide fans over, the '90s rock-inspired trio have released the first taste of the EP with single 'Dealbreaker' a running, bass-thumping track about greed and escape that scenestr premieres today.

"'Dealbreaker' was written completely around the tense tango that is the bassline and we actually looked to the way Violent Soho arrange their songs, 'Covered In Chrome' being the biggest inspiration for the structure of the song," singer Walter Webb says.

"The bassline was written as an exercise to practice bass-virtuoso Victor Wooten’s concept of pulse, which we're teaching to children on our 2015 regional tour of QLD, funded by Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).

"Producer Tyson Ruth worked unconventionally with this track and focussed on letting the bass fill the song, everything else had to fit around it. The guitar for example ended up being quite low in the mix. Something we’re happy with.

"We spent a long time tracking string parts with Isaac, and in the end we found the more minimal pizzicato playing to be the most tasteful, it suited the more organic bridge. During this bridge, we included piano on the bassline and used a copper phone for a really stripped-back vocal sound."

Mecha Mecha will launch their 'Blink & You'll Miss It' EP at Black Bear Lodge (Brisbane) 27 July.
