Sydney two-piece Polish Club have recently let their 2017 debut album 'Alright Already' loose on the rest of the world, while they'll be performing 'in the round' at this year's Brisbane Festival.
After thrilling crowds in Europe with a recent string of live shows, Polish Club will be back in Australia to perform at Brisbane Festival as part of The Tivoli In The Round series, which also features Sarah Blasko and Gareth Liddiard over three consecutive evenings.
We track down the duo of guitarist/ vocalist David Novak and drummer John-Henry Pajak to ask about the album, touring and their plans for Brisbane Festival.
How have you been enjoying the European tour?
It has been so surreally hot in Europe, it feels like touring Queensland. Except with more fried foods and bigger beers.
What have the crowds been like for these shows?
We only just released our debut album the other day, so it’s virtually like starting over again. The smaller shows kind of bring us back to our roots when we had to bust our arse to win people over and make a scene.
Are you excited about securing an international release your debut album 'Alright Already'?
Excited and relieved. It’s been too long, so we’re just happy that everything is synced up now and we can power through towards the next album everywhere at the same time.
Have you guys been happy with the live response to the album?
Yeah that’s the easiest part for us. Actually being there and playing the songs live is such a visceral thing and it’s the best way for us to make people remember us.
Have you been working on new material?
We’re pretty much all balls the to wall with the next album as soon as we get back. We’ve done one recording session and have a couple more.
How are you guys feeling about playing as part of Brisbane Festival?
Stoked to be playing among such a good line-up and at such a renowned venue. And we’re always keen to hit up Brissie. Some of our frothiest frothers live there.
You'll be playing 'in the round' at The Tivoli Theatre; will this be a first for Polish Club?
Officially yes. We did a Levi’s party in the round once and we didn’t know where to face so we just faced each other.
What do you have planned for this show?
A two-piece in the round is a pretty interesting prospect as there isn’t too much to obscure your view. It’s like a boxing match. Also nothing gets us more excited for a show than a stupid local cover. And no covers get us more excited than Brisbane covers. Oh my.
What's coming next for Polish Club?
Album two. Soon. Very soon.
