Sydney heavy rockers Polaris are ready to unveil their debut album, ‘The Mortal Coil’.

Bass guitarist and vocalist Jake Steinhauser tells all. “We are really excited to finally announce the album. We actually started recording way back in May and since then we have been working on the mixers and videos and just repairing it [sic] until the release in November,” Jake says.

‘The Mortal Coil’ was recorded in a self-made studio in Mollymook, on the south-coast of NSW. “The process was interesting. This time around we hired a holiday house and brought down all the utilities we needed. We also flew over a couple of producers to oversee the process.”

American producers Carson Slovak and Grant MacFarland of Atrium Audio previously worked with Polaris on their EP in 2016. “It was really cool having them here... honestly they are just like us but maybe in ten years time,” Jake says.

Over three weeks, Polaris recorded the guitars, bass and vocals parts of the new album. “When we got to the house everything seemed to work out and we were just really stoked. It was good to get away and get a different angle and focus on things.”

The album's lead single, ‘The Remedy’, was recently released along with a video. “This actually came together very last minute; we had already written the music for it about a month before but it didn’t have lyrics yet.

“I think the best way to describe it is, the song is about not learning lessons you should be learning in life and making the same mistakes over and over again.”

Filming for ‘The Remedy’ took place during a single afternoon at Jake and Daniel Furnari's (drums) old high school. In October, Polaris will head on the road for 'The Remedy' Australian tour. “This will be our second headliner [tour], so we are all really excited. I am keen to get on the road with friends; we are also bringing along a bunch of bands we are good mates with including Belle Haven, Deadlights and Daybreak.”

After their tour, Polaris will visit Europe in November for a month-long stint on the 'Never Say Die!' tour with Emmure, Deez Nuts, Chelsea Grin, Sworn In, Kublai Khan and Lorna Shore.

Formed in 2012, Polaris consists of Jake, Daniel, Jamie Hails (vocals), Rick Schneider (guitar) and Ryan Siew (guitar). “Daniel and I met in high school. I was playing guitar at the time and he was playing drums; he was also the first dude I met that liked heavy music who could play it.

"We met the other dudes once we decided to start a band. Luckily it has worked out well so far; we seem to gel well together.”

Polaris have shared the stage with the likes of Periphery, Northlane, Hellions and Parkway Drive. “It’s surreal. When you’re on the stage you’re always thinking about the performance. But when you’re hanging around bands that have been doing this for a while, it’s kind of daunting and exciting as well.”

‘The Mortal Coil’ is released 3 November.
