American indie artist, Phosphorescent returns to Australia early 2025 and he's bringing his old label mate Will Sheff performing solo as Okkervil River.
His first Australian live shows in 11 years, the 'Song For Zula', 'Wolves' and 'C'est La Vie No.2' Americana, alt. country singer-songwriter will headline concerts in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in January.A Nashville-based musician, Phosphorescent has supported the likes of Death Cab For Cutie, Father John Misty and The National, releasing eight studio albums since his 2003 debut 'A Hundred Times Or More', highlighted by 2013's 'Muchacho' (which features 'Song For Zula' as well as 'Ride On / Right On').
Phosphorescent's most recent record is 'Revelator', released in April of this year. It continues his exploration of themes related to existentialism, illness, addiction, fatherhood and marriage. "This record is a lot more open-ended and ephemeral," Phosphorescent says.
"I like that the record restrains itself the entire time until the last song lays it all out there – I needed to have some strength, to not quit. I needed it to say, 'Yeah, we got this'."
The addition of Okkervil River, who the late Lou Reed was a fan, to the line-up makes this a sublime double bill of ethereal, earthy indie-rock coated Americana. Fans can expect a solo set from Will performing some of the band's cherished games like 'Lost Coastlines', 'Unless It Kicks', 'Westfall', 'For Real' and many more.
"After over ten years away, I am thrilled to announce I will be returning to Australia, in support of my old compatriot and ex-labelmate Phosphorescent," Will says.
"It's dang hard to do one of these globe-spanning runs these days, so I hope all you friends down under can make it out so we can say hi for the first time, or catch up and make up for some lost time. What a thrill these shows will be."
