A kaleidoscope of genres – from jazz, funk, soul, and rock – Brooklyn hip hop, R&B groovers Phony Ppl embrace music that encourages listeners to 'don't think, just feel'.
"Australia!!! We are so excited to be headed back to see you this October," shares the collective, who'll headline concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane in October alongside their appearance at Yours & Owls Festival.Comprised of Elbee Thrie (vocals) and Aja Grant (keyboard) – who founded the group – as well as Elijah Rawk (lead guitar), Matt 'Maffyuu' Byas (drums), and Bari Bass (bass guitar), Phony Ppl first gained traction in 2015 with the release of their debut album 'Yesterday's Tomorrow', which features the certified banger 'Why iii Love The Moon'.
They followed up in 2018 with the record 'mō'zā-ik (Mozaik)' featuring tracks 'Way Too Far' and 'Before You Get A Boyfriend'.
After they went viral in 2020 when they appeared alongside Megan Thee Stallion's NPR Tiny Desk appearance (where the artists previewed their collaboration 'Fkn Around'), work on their third LP 'Euphonyus' stalled due to the pandemic.
As they contended with travel restrictions they released 'On My Sh.t' featuring Joey Bada$$ and the 'Euphonyus' track 'Nowhere But Up', which was made on Zoom through screen sharing.
They finally released 'Euphonyus' last year – it features collabs with JoJo, Kaytranada, Leon Thomas, and The Soul Rebels, as well as the 'Fkn Around' joint.
Currently playing shows across the US including a recent stop at New York's The Governors Ball Music Festival, when Phony Ppl head to Australia they'll be fresh off a September residency at New York's famous Blue Note Jazz Club.
