One of Australia's most recognisable rock & roll frontmen, Grinspoon's Phil Jamieson will take time out from the band to focus on his own solo endeavours.
Set to release his very first album of solo material next month, Phil has shared the newest single (and music video) from 'Somebody Else' (that's due 29 July) with the release today of 'Lights On'.A cruisy, mellow ride of introspective indie rock with Phil's trademark melodically rich vocals breathing a soothing calmness to the work, 'Lights On' was co-produced by Oscar Dawson (one half of Holy Holy).
"It's been a journey for 'Lights On', going through many iterations and arrangements and what not," shares Phil.
"It's a fun song to move shoulders and hips to – and its release also means I'm closer to releasing the album!
"The track might be about a bank heist? At its core, it's about always keeping your heart in place for the person that you love."
With Grinspoon spending a busy first half of the year on the festival circuit (appearances at Spring Loaded and Wallapalooza) that concludes with their performance at Splendour, Jamieson will then embark on a tour with his own band playing his own originals.
"Keep your expectations low and I will supersede them! I never go to concerts expecting much, I always find that if I go in with low expectations, I come away feeling relatively positive," Phil says.
"I know it sounds a bit facetious to say, but you can guarantee that I will be there and also accompanied by a band, which is very exciting to really flesh out these songs.
"And of course, there will be Grinners songs played too, it would be rude not to. I might even throw in a Powderfinger, Jebediah or Spiderbait song too, just to even out my alt '90s cover set?!"
'Somebody Else' is set for release 29 July.
Tickets to Phil's tour are on sale.
