Brisbane psychedelic-doom-dance band, Peyote Goat(ie), will be dropping their new single, ‘Mobius Rifft’, this June.
Peyote Goat(ie) features current and past members of regular Brisbane bands such as: Motorway Ends, Whiskey And Speed, Forward Beast, Indica and Pissed On. To celebrate the release, Peyote Goat(ie) will play a launch show later this month. “The launch show is going to be a mammoth event, which is going to involve a few other bands; all excellent, local bands. We’re going to have a huge visual display alongside a sonic assault that is Peyote Goat(ie),” explains the group's guitarist, Teague.
Peyote Goat(ie) are relatively new to the scene. “Teague and I are both pretty new to it,” singer Michael says. “The rest of the band, I think they’re fairly well acquainted with the doom scene. It’s been so fun getting to hear all the different ways people interpret the doom sound. I guess that’s what [Peyote Goat(ie) is]; we wanted to interpret it in a different way.”
Peyote Goat(ie) have set about developing the loudest and heaviest riffs. “Psychedelic, doom-dance-party music – it’s got so much groove to it. It’s a fun thing to dance to,” says Teague. “It’s very emotive music. You feel it more than you hear it.”
As a new band on the scene, Peyote Goat(ie) are still learning as they go. “This is my first time singing, so you know, it’s a learning journey,” Michael says. “The whole thing is a learning curve. Learning how to write songs, learning how to sing in time with everything and pick the moments.”
After the single launch, Peyote Goat(ie) will be continuing to work on their new album and are already planning the launch event. “Halloween will be the album launch. Hopefully we’re going to have some really good bands there. We’ll be recording that whole thing. So we’ll have a live recording as well as several people filming. The album will be relatively short, four tracks, and only 80 minutes,” says Teague.
“It’s not like a rule, but it seems to be something that pleases us all when we have got the bones of the song down and it’s 20 minutes long,” Michael adds.
“After the single launch show, the short term is just to play the album. That’s all we’ve set so far. I don’t anticipate we’ll be touring the world this year,” Teague continues.
Peyote Goat(ie) are having fun with their new sound while enjoying sinking their teeth into new challenges. “We love playing this, it’s so much fun. We play this for us, not for anyone else," Teague says. "We’re a band constantly thinking and creating things, and that helps make the sound fun as well, you know; technically it is doom, but only technically I think.”
Peyote Goat(ie) play the New Globe Theatre 27 June.
