Update - 15 December, 2023: Peter Garrett And The Alter Egos have added extra shows in Newcastle and Melbourne. Scroll down for the new details.

Renowned activist, former politician, and lead singer of Midnight Oil, Peter Garrett is presently focused on his solo endeavours with his next studio project to be titled 'The True North' – his first solo music since 2016.

To be released in March, Garrett will take to the road with his backing band The Alter Egos for a national tour taking in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Cairns, and Brisbane before an appearance at Bluesfest.

The first taste of 'The True North' is the single 'Innocence Parts 1 & 2' that features the vocal line: 'It's never too late!'

"With the Oils, and even the first solo record, there was plenty of banging down the doors and speaking out about the things that need to change," Peter reflects.

"There's still a bit of that in this album too of course, but generally these songs are reflective of the special things we need to cherish; the natural world as well as our always spinning internal compass, that helps us navigate the unruly passage of life."

Produced and mixed by Tony Buchen (Smashing Pumpkins, Montaigne, G Flip, Tim Finn), 'The True North' features Martin Rotsey (Midnight Oil) on guitar with Heather Shannon (The Jezabels) on piano and keys, Evan Mannell on drums and Rowan Lane on bass.

Freya Schack-Arnott on cello and Ollie Thorpe on pedal steel joined in too as did two of Peter's daughters, May and Grace, who sang on some of the key tracks.

Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 26 October.
