It's only taken half a decade, but doom metal pioneers Pentagram will tour Australia for the very time this year.
Set to land down under in August, with concerts scheduled for Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, the band's only original member singer Bobby Liebling is often cited as the US version of Ozzy Osbourne.After trialling several different line-ups as well as names throughout the 1970s, releasing a number of 7" singles, including an urban legend that KISS wanted to buy the rights to two Pentagram songs, Pentagram released their debut album 'Relentless' in 1985.
Considered one of the 'big four of doom metal' alongside Candlemass, Saint Vitus, and Trouble, Pentagram's big hits include 'The Ghoul', 'Relentless' and 'All Your Sins' (from their debut album) as well as 'Forever My Queen', 'Be Forwarned', and 'Sign Of The Wolf (Pentagram)'.
With semi-regular album releases from the late '80s through to their 2015 LP 'Curious Volume', Pentagram returned after a ten-year recording absence with the new album 'Lighting In A Bottle' that was released in January (featuring the cuts 'I Spoke To Death' and 'Live Again').
The current Pentagram line-up, since June 2024, features Bobby alongside Mos Generator musicians Tony Reed and Scooter Haslip (guitars and bass, respectively), and drummer Henry Vazquez of Saint Vitus, the Skull, Spirit Caravan and Sourvein.
Earlier this year Liebling went TikTok viral after a clip of him staring off into the crowd with wide eyes began circulating, and The Ghoul Stare was born.
