It seems Australia can't get enough of Peking Duk and another sold-out venue greeted the duo when they hit the stage of The Tivoli Theatre Saturday night (13 May) in Brisbane.
With the crowd already more than warmed up thanks to support acts Ivan Ooze and Brisbane's own Mallrat, the Canberra pairing of Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles where able to launch straight into their up-tempo and high energy set.
Like the crowd who had gathered to see them, they were there to have fun. Their biggest hits including ‘High’, ‘The Way You Are’, ‘Say My Name’ and latest single with Swedish performing Elliphant ‘Stranger’ were all given a thorough airing.
The guys were also happy to throw in some old-school tunes into the DJ mix. Oasis made an unexpected, but welcome, cameo and was greeted by a sing-along from the crowd; while the addition of The Prodigy whipped the dancing up a notch or three.
However, if you did want to make a criticism of the show – there was perhaps a lack of nuance. While with some sets like this, DJs will build up and break down and layer their performance, here there was only one real level: full-on. In saying that, it seemed like this was exactly how the crowd wanted it and coupled with a full-on light show, animations and – hurray! – a confetti gun, good fun was had by all.
