Parlour have embarked on a mission to travel through the cosmos to bring their comedic songwriting to planet Earth and Adelaide Fringe.
The show, Alien Abductions & Space-Pop Productions, takes you on the adventure of two space cowgirls creating pop far from their native planet Pansu.Their performance is an intergalactic and melodramatic ode to their Earthly experiences; from their first crush to their first joint. Will you join them on their trek?
Parlour are also nearing the release of their debut EP. "We're over the moon to announce our EP 'Alien Abductions & Space-Pop Productions' has finally been approved by Pansu Council for distribution and will be in the airwaves on 4 March.
"These six songs tell the stories of the shallow and deep relationships we've experienced during our time on earth, from falling for a dealer to processing the heartbreak of having to leave to go back to Pansu after meeting one's soulmate.
"We might exists lightyears apart and be from completely different galaxies, but heartbreak transcends solar system and weed's reputation remains untouched in outer space. We can wait for you hear it."
Here, Parlour share five favourite features of their spaceship 'The Velvet Slipper'.
1: The Velvet Slipper AI – we call her V for short
Our ship may not be the fastest or have the latest technological advancements, but it more than makes up for it with its advanced artificial intelligence system. In 2016, we had a chance encounter with the AI system onboard. The conversation was hilarious and inspiring, and caused us to purchase The Velvet Slipper there and then.
V has proven to be highly intelligent and even managed to communicate with Earthlings via our social media while we were in post-abduction quarantine. We cherish V and hope you get to interact with her during our visit to planet Earth.
2: Styling Tube
Shopping for new outfits is a luxury we don't often have while traveling through the cosmos. That's why we're grateful to have a styling tube onboard. All we have to do is stand inside, press a button, and voila! We're outfitted from head to toe in fashionable outfits inspired by a mood board we update every month. That's why our hair colour and ear shape might change with the seasons.
3: Karaoke Time with The Singing Machine
No space adventure is complete without a good sing-along, which is why The Velvet Slipper is equipped with The Singing Machine SML385.We picked it up on Facebook Marketplace during our first visit to Earth, and it's been a staple on our intergalactic road-trips ever since. Our current karaoke favourite is 'I'm With You' by Avril Lavigne, what's yours? Please share with us on our Instagram DMs.
4: Studio
We needed a designated recording space for our musical adventures, and The Velvet Slipper's studio fits the bill perfectly. With its pink furry walls and astro-turf floors, our creative juices are always flowing. We spend most of our time here writing, recording, laughing, and crying with laughter.
5: Hugh Jackman shrine
It all started with a scroll through social media, and now we're dedicated fans of Hugh Jackman. You can even watch the moment we discovered him on our video 'Crush', which is a song we wrote in honour of the man himself. He's handsome, kind, funny, and a fantastic dancer, so it's only fitting that we have a shrine dedicated to him onboard The Velvet Slipper. We hope to meet him one day.
Parlour's Alien Abductions & Space-Pop Productions plays as part of Adelaide Fringe at The Gov 11 March.
