A living legend and an icon of funk, psychedelic music, the ageless George Clinton returns to Australia in 2025.
The singer-songwriter and band leader behind 1970s experimental funk staples Parliament and Funkadelic (who fused Afrofuturism, outlandish fashion, psychedelia, and surreal humour), Clinton will headline concerts in Gold Coast, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in September."We have a blast every time we come to Australia. Aussies know what it means to have a good time: the national motto should be free your mind and your ass will follow," George says.
"My band has been funkin' real hard lately. . . you don't wanna miss what we be throwin down. Come on out and get funked up!"
Alongside James Brown and Sly Stone, Clinton is considered one of the foremost innovators of funk music, whose solo career launched in 1982 with the album 'Computer Games' and would go on to influence 1990s hip hop and G-funk.
Clinton's music would inspire the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Flying Lotus, Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg and Drake, all of whom have collaborated with George over the years.
Clinton has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in contemporary funk and neo-soul including Anxderson .Paak, Kamasi Washington, and Erick The Architect, without forgetting his Prince 1990 collaboration, 'We Can Funk'. Clinton also lent his vocals to the 'Just Sing (Trolls World Tour)' soundtrack alongside Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, James Corden and Anna Kendrick.
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, alongside 15 other members of Parliament-Funkadelic, in 2019 George and Parliament-Funkadelic were given Grammy Lifetime Achievement Awards.
Fans can expect to hear some of the biggest funk anthems of all time, with a catalogue of hits that includes 'Atomic Dog' as well as Funkadelic: 'Can You Get To That', 'Maggot Brain', 'Hit It And Quit It', 'Ain't That Funkin' Kinda Hard On You?', 'Super Stupid', 'Biological Speculation'; Parliament: 'Give Up The Funk', 'Flash Light' 'P-Funk', 'Mothership Connection (Star Child)', 'Unfunky UFO', 'Handcuffs'.
Tickets on sale from 9am (local time) on 3 April.
