Melbourne death metal outfit, Orpheus Omega, take their name from a Greek god who could charm rocks with his music and was one of the few gods to visit Hades and return.
It seems fitting then the band has been selected to headline Ye Gods Of Metal in Brisbane next month.
Orpheus Omega recently returned from a national tour in support of their third studio album, ‘Partum Vita Mortum’, and guitarist/ vocalist Chris Themelco says it was one of their best tours so far. “We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
“The only other thing that was as ambitious and as expansive was we did a tour in Asia last year which was awesome. That said, doing a tour back at home especially on this album and with all the right promo and build-up, it was exciting to be going around Australia and going everywhere we could.”
Next-up for Orpheus Omega is the Ye Gods Of Metal festival at New Globe Theatre. “I’m absolutely stoked about that,” Chris says. “Ye Gods was actually the first interstate gig we played a few years back, I think three years ago for the first one, and we co-headlined with Before Nightfall.
“To be able to go back there three years later on this album and being able to go and celebrate in our home away from home and with our family away from family in Brisbane; I’m very excited. We can’t wait to do that show.
“There’s the same kind of drive and dedication [from fans] in Brisbane as there is in Melbourne,” Chris says. “I think it might be slightly small scale where the ‘scene’ is concerned but the bands and the fans have the same sort of rabid attitude towards it, and that’s why we love going there.”
Orpheus Omega headline Ye Gods Of Metal at New Globe Theatre 5 December, and play The Tote in Collingwood on 12 December.
