One Dragon Two Dragon: Adding New Elements

One Dragon Two Dragon
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Since the band's inception in 2011, One Dragon Two Dragon has captivated audiences with their underground, cinematic sound.

The five-piece, instrumental band has ventured varied sounds throughout its history, which has never included vocals. Kristina Forrest (keys, synth, flute and melodica) explains they have always tried to keep things fresh and interesting. “I try to make sure the music goes somewhere. It's not just instrumental music that just goes on and on without a journey.”

It's taken a while but the band is finally heading in the direction they have always wanted. “We have always wanted to branch out from just being a live band to creating a whole show. So I guess our last gig that we did at The Motor Room earlier in the year, started a new phase where we got costumes and visuals as well.
“When I was younger, success was probably defined as being able to tour overseas but as you get older you start to think, maybe not. I guess now it's just creating high-quality music and being able to play in front of a lot of people. That is my ultimate goal,” Kristina says.

The band's latest single is 'Oscura'. Driven by the heartbeat of their sound, the bass and drums, it is a heavy underwater-sounding journey. This, along with many of their other songs, can be heard when the band performs at the free, live-music programme City Sounds. The programme showcases many local and talented bands and artists in the Queen Street Mall, Post Office Square, South Bank and other locations around Brisbane each week. “City Sounds is excellent for Brisbane,” Kristina says.

“It creates such a great vibe in the mall. [And] it is so great for bands to get out in front of an audience that maybe wouldn't see them otherwise.”

One Dragon Two Dragon play City Sounds 22 December and The Motor Room 4 December.
