Australian hip hop collective One Day are producing a Christmas edition of their monthly community block party – One Day Sundays.
Comprised of hip hop artists Horrowshow, Spit Syndicate, Jackie Onassis and Joyride, One Day debuted their album 'Mainline' in August and followed it with a national tour in September. Curators of One Day Sundays, the boys see beer garden car parks turned into heaving block parties – complete with DJs, live graffiti, dancing, and mouth-watering food. Hosted at The Vic, the Christmas edit of ODS in Sydney will see One Day helping get youths off the streets this Christmas.
Helping to raise money for disadvantaged youth through a donation to Sydney based charity Youth Off The Streets, Nick Lupi from Spit Syndicate says they saw their final party of the year as an opportunity to give something back. “We’re big fans of Youth Off The Streets and want to support the important work they do assisting youths in crisis, especially at this time of year.”
Established by Father Chris Riley in 1991, Youth off The Streets works with young people who maybe homeless, drug dependent and/or recovering from abuse. With major services operating in the Inner West, and also around Australia, the charity has helped over 70,000 young people, but relies heavily on donations to continue its good work.
Happy to get on board, licensee of The Vic in Sydney, Ben Johnson, says they wanted to be involved from word go. “One Day Sundays is an amazing community block party, that really enhances the Inner West’s music scene. To produce this event for charity, particularly for disadvantaged youth, was a great idea.”
Expecting to raise over $10,000 for the Sydney charity, One Day Sundays will also take place in Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne with local DJs in each state.
