Save Our Stages NSW (SOSNSW) are asking the public to join their movement in urging the NSW Government for immediate support to save the state's live music industry.
So far, more than 70 NSW independent live music venues have joined together to form SOSNSW, with the sole focus to work alongside MusicNSW and industry reps to devise a stimulus package that ensures the immediate and ongoing survival of the local live music industry. In September, SOSNSW launched an e-Petition to the NSW Legislative Assembly (requesting urgent financial assistance) and within 30 hours had amassed more than 20,000 signatures.
While the e-Petition qualified to be debated in Parliament, no date yet has been set for the debate.
Now, SOSNSW is asking you for assistance, by sending a (supplied) letter to your local MP. All you need to do is visit their website, select your local area, and send an auto-generated email to your MP.
Chief Operating Officer for Century Venues, Sam Nardo, says: "If the government doesn't act soon to help save our live music industry, we'll see more venues forced to close and with them, thousands of jobs will be lost and an important part of our local communities gone forever."
Without financial intervention from the NSW Government, a survey by the Australian Live Music Business Council predicts 85 per cent of NSW live music venues will not survive the next 12 months.
