After making their 2024 return in February, Brisbane cult trivia night Not On Your Rider is back with a line-up of hilarity guaranteed to delight audiences of all interests.
With participants gathered from across the country, Not On Your Rider and quizmaster Aimon Clark return this year to The Triffid as well as seasons at Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival, with Aimon promising an even more exhilarating experience for fans with their uniquely unconventional trivia night."The reason I started it this way is I've always loved watching TV game shows and panel shows, and just yelling out the answers. I've always wanted there to be some sort of interactive element to it," Aimon says.
"If you're not into trivia, you can always come along and just watch the show and hear the stories and stuff like that, but if you do like trivia, you can always play along too and win some prizes; and it just makes the reveal so much more dramatic when you tell the answer and the whole room goes 'ahhhhh', it's a great feeling.
"We've been doing that for five years every month, and it just gets bigger and bigger every single month – last year we made our first trek to the comedy festivals, and we're doing it again this year."
With a track record of hosting an impressive roster of guests, it's undeniable the upcoming line-up curated by Aimon and his team promises to be nothing short of spectacular.
Anticipation runs high as returning fans await the announcement of these yet-to-be-revealed guests, especially considering past years have seen the likes of the voice of Queensland Rail grace the event.
"That was like a goosebumps moment. The whole venue just got up and cheered, but we're going to try and do more stuff like that. We're going to try and track down more cheeky people like that. I think that'll be fun."
Frequently likened to trivia on steroids, Aimon promises Not On Your Rider is an evening filled with wonders and surprises. Given Aimon's past antics, such as zip-lining into the venue, there's no doubt attendees are in for an unforgettable night of excitement and spectacle.
"There's lasers, there's smoke and songs. You wouldn't normally expect at your trivia night. I let myself get away with doing the dumbest things. Sometimes I pretend to fall from the roof as a dummy or as my big entrance, I flying fox in, but it's like a dummy flying in and I jump out."
Returning to his roots, Aimon seamlessly merges his life's work of crafting top-notch trivia questions with his extensive experience in the music and entertainment industry.
"I put a lot of work and passion into the questions and the content for it, and you can tell it's all kind of written by me. I weave little stories through it too. Every question might relate to another question and it all kind of comes together at the end, hopefully. Sometimes the moments aren't planned, and they just happen, and it's magic on the night.
"The attendees are fantastic. It's people who have been coming since the start, and we find that there's a lot of returning teams. During lockdown I started a trivia stream that was going twice a week, and it really took off, and I had thousands of people tuning in several times a week, and it really took over my life. It was a really kind of beautiful thing."
By collaborating with television and radio presenter Dicko and The Grates' Patience Hodgson, Aimon ensures the shows are be filled with laughter and entertainment from start to finish.
"You don't have to be good at trivia to come along. There's no pressure. We never put anyone on the spot for anything, really. Most people just come along to watch the show and be in the environment, being in the crowd.
"It's a really nice atmosphere, and the guests are always fantastic and have fantastic stories, and we do lots of silly stuff. If you're not good at music trivia, I would still encourage people to come along, because it's still a bit of fun."
Whether you're someone who thrives on the adrenaline rush of trivia or simply seeking a laid-back evening filled with hearty chuckles and good company, Not On Your Rider have tailored an experience that promises to delight and entertain audiences of all kinds.
