Nominations are open for the 2025 Australian Women In Music Awards (AWMA).
Now in its sixth year, the AWMAs celebrate the achievements of female, gender diverse and First Nations artists and music practitioners across all areas and all genres of the Australian music industry with a total of 19 award categories. With nominations open until 30 May, the AWMAs have launched the #NominateThem campaign encouraging fans, peers, and industry to nominate those who may not put themselves forward.
Historical data demonstrates many nominees haven't felt confident or deserving enough to put themselves forward. So this campaign encourages fans and supporters to support the talent who celebrates and uplifts female, gender-diverse, First Nations and multicultural artists, musicians, and music practitioners.
"Our inaugural AWMA in 2018 paved the way for some of the most important change the industry has ever seen," founding Executive Producer and Program Director Vicki Gordon says, "igniting collaboration and support nationally for female and gender-diverse artists and music practitioners, First Nations and multicultural artists and artists living in remote and regional areas.
"As we head into our sixth year, we are proud of the change and the shift AWMA has enabled – but there is so much more work to be done.
"Alongside our awards ceremony and concert, our annual conference and First Nations women's music showcase will continue to amplify positive role models, helping to break down cultural barriers and negative stereotypes."
The AWMA categories span all music genres and the many behind-the-scenes roles vital to the Australian music industry; from artists, musicians, technicians, photographers, and journalists, to leaders, artists with a disability and music practitioners from every corner of the sector.
"It's an exhilarating moment to launch the opening of the 2025 AWMA nominations, and we are excited to discover and celebrate the extraordinary Australian talent we have across the sector. I feel so honoured to be a part of such an important event in our vibrant industry," recently appointed AWMA Chair Sarah McLeod says.
Nominations are open until 30 May, 2025.
