No Quarter - A Tribute To Led Zeppelin's Legacy

These guys have a whole lotta love for Led Zeppelin.
Senior Writer.
A seasoned all-rounder music writer and storyteller with a specialised interest in the history of rock.

If it's been a long time since you rock & rolled, the No Quarter Tribute To Led Zeppelin's Legacy will help you shake off the black dog and get back on the stairway to heaven.

Long considered the ultimate Led Zeppelin experience, No Quarter bring the magic and mystique of the world's biggest rock band to life onstage, each member taking on the persona of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and John Paul Jones.

In the role of iconic axeman Jimmy Page is Bryan Christiansen, who takes some time here to chat about the No Quarter show, the legacy of Led Zeppelin and the one album he can't live without.

The band was in Australia last year for the 'Hammer Of The Gods' tour; how did you all enjoy that experience?
Really had a great time last year meeting all the Led Zeppelin fans and seeing the country. The energy from the fans here was very powerful. Australians really know their Zeppelin and were very receptive.

What does the band have in store for the upcoming Australian tour?
A great night of Led Zeppelin music for the diehard fans and also the casual fans. We will be performing well-known hits and some live, deep cuts.

Have Australian fans embraced The Led Zeppelin Experience and what you do?
Australians have very much embraced the concert experience and our recreation of what it was like to actually see Led Zeppelin live.

Last we spoke, there were issues about using the word 'experience' in your band name – has that situation been resolved?
Yes. . . We stopped using the name calling it No Quarter Tribute To Led Zeppelin’s Legacy and it's all good now. The attorneys were actually very kind to us and paid a compliment saying it was confusing fans into believing we were the real Led Zeppelin.

Your process for getting into character before a show?
I tend to review moments from live performances and match to footage I have of our group and make adjustments. I also try to loosen up and relax as my character just moved onstage with ease.

What is the most challenging part of your role?
Jimmy Page is so iconic and I do strive for those Page moments where everything syncs up. The look, notes, tone and mannerisms all have to gel seamlessly and look effortless. I’m here to say that there is a lot of effort to do that and yet to act as if it's effortless.

Do the songs remain the same?
Thankfully no. It’s the true magic of Led Zeppelin; always changing the tunes performed with different improvising to keep it fresh for each crowd. We strive to capture those moments and the fans get that and appreciate the moments.

The first time you heard Led Zeppelin?
I think I was a kid, around eight or so. My brother and his friends were really into them, so I grew up listening to [albums] Led Zeppelin 2 and 4.

You can listen to just one Led Zeppelin album for the rest of your life – which one do you choose?
'The Song Remains The Same' soundtrack; captures an incredible night in New York City. Mind blowing jams.

Trivia: according to legend, who joked that the band would 'go over like a lead balloon', hence giving them the name Led Zeppelin?
That would be none other than Keith Moon from the Who. Originally Keith, Johm Entwhisle, Jimmy Page, Steve Winwood, Jeff Beck and John Paul Jones were going to form a band called Beck’s Balarrow. Keith joked about all of them on the road together going over like a Lead Zeppelin (balloon ). When Jimmy formed the New Yardbirds, with Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones, they wanted to change the name and asked Keith if it was alright to call it Lead Zeppelin. Peter Grant insisted they drop the letter “a” out of the Lead making it Led Zeppelin so the Americans would pronounce the name correctly.
