The Newman Government has confirmed that Brisbane won't be getting a new inner-city music venue.
Campbell Newman's state government has said that any new venues will cater to drama, opera, ballet and musicals, in keeping with the findings of an Arts Queensland venue study completed in 2013.
While in Opposition, the LNP's then-leader John Paul Langbroek said Brisbane needed a new live music venue to replace Festival Hall, which closed in 2003. As it stands, Brisbane's major live music venue is the Boondall Entertainment Centre, which, you know, yeah...
The government also confirmed any new venue will have to be part of the plans for the Queens Wharf Brisbane site, the nine-hectare block of land around George and William streets.
"These new integrated resort developments could include facilities like six star hotels, retail, restaurant and entertainment zones and convention facilities," Arts Queensland said in a statement. "The outcome of the venues study will be revisited so that any potential offering contained in the integrated resort proposals can be taken into account."
