Back for its third instalment in 2023, Brisbane street party Nine Lives Festival again offers a curated line-up to appease the fussiest tastemaker as well as thrill the indie kid next door.
Set to return to its Meanjin home and local iconic live music institution The Tivoli on 4 March, Nine Lines will be headlined by American indie folk, alt. country singer-songwriter Angel Olsen ('Shut Up Kiss Me'); her first visit since 2018, Angel has released three albums subsequently including her sixth studio album 'Big Time'.The American guests at Nine Lives will also include Brooklyn-based psych-rock, dream-pop band Crumb ('Ghostride', 'Locket', 'Plants') on their maiden voyage to Australia and LA's Drugdealer (the project of multi-talented indie veteran Michael Collins).
Renowned Tuareg guitarist and songwriter Mdou Moctar (who toured America earlier this year as guest of Parquet Courts) will offer an electric performance with his band melding contemporary Saharan music with Eddie Van Halen pyrotechnics and Hendrix-inspired shredding.
Then there's a host of Australian indie treats led by Melbourne mutant punk funksters No Zu, Victorian farm rockers Bones & Jones (think Springsteen meets The Band) plus their mates Folk Bitch Trio with their bruised alt country musings.
Brisbane's soul-R&B singer-songwriter FELIVAND (who released her debut album 'Ties' earlier this year) also joins the action alongside another local artist, the latest side project by Nice Biscuit co-frontwoman Grace Cuell, Baby Cool and her psychedelic folk-country blend.
"Nine Lives started and was inspired by the record shop's ninth birthday a few years ago," Nine Lives co-founder and owner of Jet Black Cat Music, Shannon Logan says, "something extra special to bring our local and surrounding music loving communities together, stemming from the stuff we love and get behind at Jet Black Cat Music.
"It's a tastemaker's curation of fantastic music from Australia and around the world. We are thrilled to have all of these acts playing Nine Lives 2023 and can't wait for the audience to leave with some new favourites."
Spread across two stages, Nine Lives will also offer music lovers a summertime bazaar of food-trucks serving up some of the city's most delicious bites, record crates and activities for one and all.
Tickets on sale from 10am (local time) on 8 December.
