Sultry songstress Nicola Milan is a hopeless romantic and she’s out to allure audiences across Australia.
The Perth-based singer/songwriter, renowned for her silky vocals and flirtatious melodies, is set to begin her maiden national tour in January next year. Nicola says it’s the elaborate love scenes in movies that spark her musical creativity. "I get inspired a lot by movies, which might sound really weird, but it’s because I am a hopeless romantic and movies are really clichéd. You always have the big romantic moments at the end and it’s that feeling that has always inspired me.”
Her ‘Forbidden Moments’ tour follows the release of Nicola’s debut long-player of the same name earlier this year. After two years of songwriting, the album is a collection of tracks carefully selected to transport the listener to a place of romance and relaxation. “I wanted it to help create romance and that kind of mood, so people could put it on in the background and have a romantic dinner or whatever and it wouldn't interfere with your evening. It would just add to the ambiance.”
Nicola says she can’t wait to get out on the road and share her music with audiences across Australia. "I don't think Australia understands jazz like they understand it in the States. My hope for the album is to bring jazz to everyone and to make people realise that it is really listener-friendly. I like to see my music as jazz for the people."
Nicola will be accompanied by piano player and friend Ben ‘Piano King’ Clarke, along with various local musicians from the cities in which she performs. The tour will include songs from her newest album along with a few crowd-pleasing favourites.
"It will be an evening to go along to with someone you care about and be romanced. It's very much a relaxing vibe and there will be a little bit of humour injected into it, too.”
