Beneath the relaxed surfer vibe, Adelaide Mid Coast singer-songwriter Nick West exudes the talent, smarts and determination crucial for succeeding in the music industry.
Street wise and savvy, this guitarist has wisdom beyond his 20 years. To promote his upcoming debut EP release, 'Pieces Of One', Nick has a string of local dates planned.
Here, he shares his love for Adelaide's Mid Coast with six 'pieces of gold' he can find in his 'backyard'.
1: Mid Coast surfing/ beach
This gives me a sense of freedom and a nice place to re-earth [sic] myself. Plus it’s hands-down fun all the time especially with mates.
2: Custard tarts
I love Becks Bakehouse's (in Port Noarlunga) custard tarts; they are something different. They’re nice and sweet, but I like anything sweet really.
3: Camping and 4x4
I love being in the outdoors; something about being outside that makes me feel like a free spirit. Getting away from the city and being secluded with no phone reception is where it’s at on the Mid Coast.
4: Cars
I love old and classic cars. For some reason, I always find myself getting the rusty ones that need the most TLC; but working on them is the interesting part. It’s always a great/ proud feeling to see a finished product, much like my EP.
5: Sharks and foxes
I fear these creatures the most. Sharks scare most people without a doubt, but it’s something about those fuzzy foxes that creeps me out. It could be their eerie scream.
6: Wine
The fact that we're globally known for some of the best wines in the world goes without saying. The fact that we’ve been re-branded as 'The Wine Coast' may sound impressive, but the Mid Coast will always be home for me.
'Pieces Of One' EP will be released early October. Nick West plays Stag Public House (Adelaide) 4 October, Wheatsheaf Hotel (Adelaide) 10 October and South Port Surf Club (Port Noarlunga South) 13 October (2-5pm).
