An indie-folk singer-songwriter whose touching, emotive-driven brand of music captures the soul with intimate storytelling, Nick Cunningham's sonic journey stretches back to 2015.
Originally from South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, and currently based in Brisbane, having spent a decade living in Byron Bay, Cunningham has released a string of EPs and an album since his 2015 debut EP 'Letters'.He's played a host of festivals including Splendour In The Grass and Bluesfest as well as supporting the likes of Sons of The East and Kim Churchill. With a Spotify audience now of 100,000 monthly listeners, his music was played in 180 countries (that's almost as many as the total number of United Nations member states, 193) in 2024 with 4 million-plus streams.
"My music is in 180 countries and I've only played shows in 2. The dream was always to be an international touring artist, maybe 2025 will be the year I get an opportunity 🤞🏽 Cheers for streaming legends x."
With a bedrock of indie folk, Cunningham's lavish tones stretch to post punk, jazz, blues and indie rock, backboned by rich lyrics painting relatable, everyday pictures about relationships, living and surviving life's challenges.
After releasing the sublime 'No Flowers, No Rain' EP in April (highlighted by 'Gotta Go', 'Fly To You' and 'Doesn't Matter'), Nick's newest release is the single 'With You'.
An upbeat, jaunty number reminiscent of Ziggy Alberts and Zander Rhodes, it's a song Nick created for "a coastal road trip" that was recorded at Studio Byron after initially having the original ideas for the song in Adelaide.
"I wrote the finger-picked guitar riff to this song in a hotel room in Adelaide the morning after meeting my now partner. We met while we were performing at an event in Adelaide of all places, and happened to live two suburbs apart in Brisbane. We had this trip away to the coast after a few dates and the lyrics really came from that."
With the release of 'With You', Cunningham is anticipating a great start to the summer and the beginning of a brand new chapter of sounds as we head into the new year.
After recently having his acoustic guitar stolen off the tour bus (which remains 'missing'), earlier this month Nick received some awesome news from the "legends at Yamaha" providing a nice reminder of the spirit of humanity.
"I don't actually believe this has happened. From being shattered after having my dream guitar stolen from the tour bus to Yamaha finding out and helping me out by sending me a brand new replacement. Seriously I feel soo grateful. THANK YOU 🦋🩵."
